Exclusive! Dog Day Afternoon at Pink's House

Forget those tabloid rumors that the nearly two-year-long marriage between Pink and her motocross hubby Carey Hart has hit a rough patch.

I saw the two at their house on Saturday, and they couldn’t seem any more in love. I saw them holding hands, whispering in each other’s ears and just lookin’ cutesy.

I was the only columnist invited inside their Los Angeles-area home for a party Pink threw for PETA president Ingrid Newkirk and her new book, Let’s Have a Dog Party: 20 Tailwagging Celebrations to Share with Your Best Friend.

Guests included Kevin Nealon, Jorja Fox and Bill Maher, but this bash quickly went to the dogs. About 30 pooches ran around Pink and Hart’s backyard. A couple of them even jumped into the pool.

“This backyard was made for this,” Pink told me. “I want an animal sanctuary. That’s my dream. I want acres and acres of free dogs, pigs, cows and horses.”

Pink and Hart already have four dogs. Pink rescued two of them from a junkyard. “There were seven of them, but we thought they were going to be Saint Bernards, so we couldn’t get all seven,” Pink said. “I wanted all seven, but Carey said no! So, we got two.”

One standout feature of the backyard is a tombstone for Janis Joplin. About three years ago, Pink was attached to play the late rocker in The Gospel According to Janis Joplin, which was to be directed by Penelope Spheeris. (Others attached to The Gospel or other Joplin movie projects include Renée Zellweger and Zooey Deschanel.)

While Pink feels Joplin, though long gone, “doesn’t want that movie made,” she said, “if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen.

“You know what?" she added with a laugh. "I would have been the best.”

And I couldn’t agree more. Back in February, Pink performed a goosebump-inducing cover of Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee” at Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party. I could only imagine what Pink could have achieved playing her idol on the big screen.
