Party Scoopage! New Line's Birthday Party

Jennifer Hudson took a break from Sex to get her party on.

The Oscar winner hit New Line Cinema’s 40th anniversary gala in NYC the other night to represent the Sex and the City gang, because Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall were shooting. Hudson joined the cast to play Carrie Bradshaw's assistant in the upcoming New Line film of the hit HBO series.

While Hudson didn’t perform at the Lincoln Center affair, two Tracy Turnblads did. The original film Tracy, Ricki Lake, teamed with the Broadway musical's first Tracy,  Marissa Jaret Winokur, for a duet of  "Come So Far" from the Hairspray movie musical. And if that weren't enough, they were joined by Darlene Love, Elijah Kelley and an entire gospel choir!

Jane Fonda, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Campbell, Javier Bardem, Fran Drescher, Rebecca De Mornay, Sam Elliott and Hairspray creator John Waters were also there. Nicole Kidman arrived sans hubby Keith Urban—but the country crooner wasn’t MIA. He met Kidman there, but he skipped the red carpet.

Despite the evening’s high glamour, the menu at the after-party was anything but. Guests were treated to comfort food, including pigs in a blanket, meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
