I have more scoop for you on Steve Martin’s wedding to former New Yorker writer Anne Stringfield.
Martin, 61, and Stringfield, 35, were married by Bob Kerrey, the former U.S. senator from Nebraska. "I’m not sure of the connection," one guest told me, "but I heard Kerrey got ordained just so he could marry them."
Martin’s best man was Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. The wedding took place at Martin’s Los Angeles home in front of about 80 guests, including Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Diane Keaton, Carl Reiner, Martin Mull, Eugene Levy, Nancy Meyers and longtime Martin agent Ed Limato.
Hot Rize, a bluegrass band, performed. The southern-inspired menu included many recipes from Stringfield’s own mother, including fried green tomatoes.
"It was very low key," the guest reports.
Most guests didn’t even know there was going to be a wedding, because the couple only told them they were having a dinner party. The newlyweds started dating in 2002.
