Premiere Scoopage: The Bourne Ultimatum

Matt Damon Jason Boland/Universal Studios

I hit the Bourne Ultimatum premiere last night and was totally transfixed from the very start  as Jason Bourne—played so well by Matt Damon—survives bomb blasts, gunshots, car crashes and attacks that put ultimate fighting to shame.

Think of Jason Bourne as a dirty James Bond. There's absolutely no martini-shaking glamour about him. He has no far-fetched gizmos and leggy airheads to get him out of some rather precarious situations. The movie never lets up. It's all about energy, energy, energy. It's a trip around the world with stops in London, Paris, Turin, Madrid, New York, Washington, D.C. and Tangiers.

And the premiere itself had plenty to offer: Damon and his wife, Lucy, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Bourne costar Joan Allen and Ellen Pompeo hit last night's premiere at the ArcLight in Hollywood, as did Johnathon Schaech and Brody Jenner with his mom, Linda Thompson.

The party at the nearby Palladium featured two of the movie's wrecked cars, a Volkswagen and a New York City police cruiser. Inside, overhead monitors with blinking fluorescent lights resembled those seen in the flick's CIA situation rooms.

The oddest sighting of the evening had to be Larry Birkhead.

What on earth was the the bleached-blond father of Anna Nicole Smith's daughter, Dannielynn, doing there?

Seems like he was just being a good uncle. I'm told he brought along a nephew who was visiting from out of town.
