Kelly Clarkson Gets Vocal About Her Own Songs
Mark Abrahams/SELF Magazine
At least one person isn't worried about the success—or lack thereof—of Kelly Clarkson's new album, My December: Clarkson herself.
"I don't care about selling millions," Clarkson says in the new issue of Self magazine, on stands July 26. "I just want to write music that people will relate to."
You may have heard that the 25-year-old American Idol winner and her record-label boss, legendary music impresario Clive Davis, had a falling out because Davis was reportedly none too happy with some of the tracks on My December.
Clarkson wrote or cowrote every song on the album.

But it's not as if Clarkson didn't have material. She tells writer Erin Bried she has drafts of 150 new songs saved on her laptop. "The moment a song comes to me, I have to get it out," Clarkson says. "That's why I have a hard time sleeping, because a lot of those times are at night."
Even so, she says, "It's not even that hard of a thought process for me. I've written every song in 15 to 20 minutes."
And don't be surprised if the Davis feud inspires a song or two. Clarkson says, "I'm antidrama [in life] because I get it out in my music."
