Jump Back into That Suit

Originally designed for skydiving purposes, jumpsuits were made famous by Elvis Presley, who bedazzled the one-pieces in the disco era. Decades later, Jennifer Lopez brought back the trend by wearing a Frankie B. jean version on her J.Lo album cover, and the style was immediately mimicked by everyone from Melissa Joan Heart to Carmen Electra. Now the jumpsuit is back—and hotter than ever, with a plethora of styles for every climate and occasion.
"I like to think of jumpsuits as discreetly sexy," says Frankie B. owner Daniella Clarke, the wife of former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke. "Jumpsuits magnify curves, so use them to your advantage." Voluptuous vixens like J.Lo and Kim Kardashian have the right idea, using the style to play up their curves with confidence rather than hide them with wide-legged pants.

Tart offers great options like the Claudia jumpsuit above. The lightweight jersey material skims effortlessly on the body, keeping you cool day through night. Pair the one-piece with flats and a cardigan for the office, then slip on bangles and a pair of stilettos for a night on the town.

If you want to keep it classic, try Frankie B.'s Charlie jumpsuit (shown above), a revised take on their original J.Lo version. Worn alone with heels, it has just the right amount of edge for a summer shindig. Or imitate Kim Kardashian and layer the onesie with a tank like the boyfriend tee from LnA, a favorite among Lindsay Lohan, Charlize Theron and Hilary Duff this season.
Whatever you do, don't pull a Paris Hilton and wear a jumpsuit in orange. Even Miss P couldn't make the jail-look work.
