More Hannah Montana on the Way

As if there were any doubt, Hannah Montana is alive and quite well, thank you.

The hit sitcom was formally renewed for a third season as Disney Channel unveiled its plans Wednesday for the 2008-09 season.

Also given green lights were the comedy series Wizards of Waverly Place, reupped for a second season, and the animated show, Phineas and Ferb, likewise back for season two.

Hannah Montana is TV's top show among children ages 6-14, as the network likes to remind, just in case its inescapable star, Miley Cyrus, and its inescapable soundtrack albums have escaped notice.

The show has also spawned a hit concert tour, a hit concert movie, and, as of this week, a potential new law in Minnesota that would seek to end ticket brokers from buying up all the good Hannah Montana concert tour tickets.

Cyrus recently told E! News she was heading off to Nashville this summer to shoot a Hannah Montana movie.

Wizards of Waverly Place, about a family of, yes, wizards, is building an impressive résumé of its own. Last week, it was TV's most-watched show on all of cable, save for USA's perennially top-rated pro wrestling.

Also announced by Disney Channel Wednesday were three new TV-movies and cross-promotional vehicles: Princess Protection Program, featuring Wizards of Waverly Place's Selena Gomez; Dadnapped, starring Hannah Montana's Emily Osment; and Hatching Pete, starring Jason Dolley of Cory in the House, a show that airs on a certain network.

There was no word in the announcement of a certain franchise called High School Musical. But Disney Channel exec Rich Ross did the talking on that subject Tuesday when he told the Hollywood Reporter that High School Musical 4 was in the works and likely headed for his cable network.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year, starring Zac Efron and his castmates from the first two Disney Channel TV movies, is currently shooting and is due in movie theaters in the fall.
