Cage Accepts Turner's Pooch Apology

Kathleen Turner is finally out of the doghouse with Nicolas Cage.

The twice-Oscar'd actor has accepted a public apology from his Peggy Sue Got Married costar over damning—and just plain odd—allegations she made against Cage in her autobiography, including a claim that the actor once stole a dog.

In addition to the pooch-napping claim, Turner also alleged Cage was twice arrested for drunken driving during the filming of their 1986 movie.

"He'd come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket," she wrote in one of the offending passages, which was subsequently excerpted in Britain's Daily Mail under the headline "Why I Detest Burt Reynolds and Nicolas Cage."

In addition to adamantly denying the claims, Cage filed a defamation, libel and slander suit against his whiskey-voiced costar, the Daily Mail's publishers and Headline Publishing Group, the book's U.K. publisher.

Cage's attorney, Simon Smith, appeared in London's High Court Friday to announce that both publishing groups had acknowledged Turner's claims to be untrue. The Daily Mail said it would remove the article from its website and publish an apology, while Headline will include a correction and apology in printed copies of Turner's book, Send Yourself Roses: My Life, Love and Leading Roles.

Smith, who said Cage was "extremely pleased" with the outcome, also confirmed that the actress would be footing Cage's legal fees for the case, as well as making a substantial donation to the National Adult Protective Services Foundation, a U.S.-based charity that benefits vulnerable adults.

Cage, he said, was "gratified that the defendants have done the right thing by acknowledging their errors and making amends."
