Denise Loses That Sheen
Denise Sheen, we hardly knew you.
A Los Angeles court commissioner on Friday approved the Wild Thing star's petition to legally readopt her maiden name, putting yet another nail in the coffin holding the remains of Denise Richards' marriage to Charlie Sheen.
While Richards never utilized her hubby's last name for professional or otherwise public purposes, the paperwork filed Friday and signed by L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Harvey A. Silberman allows her to officially drop "Sheen" from her life. (View the documents.)
Although Richards' divorce from the Two and a Half Men star was finalized Nov. 17, 2006, the estranged exes only recently reached a truce in the custody battle they continued to wage over daughters Sam, 2, and Lola, 1.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but on March 7 Richards' rep, Jill Fritzo, said the actress believed the arrangement was "in the best interests of their children."
The couple tied the knot in June 2002. Richards filed for divorce in March 2005 when she was six months pregnant with Lola, alleging infidelity and other marital sins on Sheen's part, and he fired back with his own petition a few weeks later.
But the duo ended up keeping it together for the remainder of the year, enough so that Sheen was still wearing his wedding band on the late-night talk show circuit in November. By January 2006, however, Richards was moving ahead with the split.
Richards, who will be starring in her own E! reality series this summer, has since dated and split from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, while Sheen is engaged to real estate investor Brooke Mueller. He has said they're planning a summer wedding. (E! Online is a division of E! Entertainment Television.)
