Bond Gets Early British Bow
Thu., Mar. 20, 2008 9:41 AM PDT by Josh Grossberg
James Bond just earned his license for trick-or-treating.
Sony Pictures and the producers of the 22nd James Bond adventure, Quantum of Solace, have unveiled plans to release the highly anticipated film in the U.K. Oct. 31, one week before its scheduled North American launch Nov. 7.
Audiences in France, Belgium, the Philippines, Jordan, Oman and Bahrain will get their first taste of Solace Nov. 5. The flick will then unspool in the Netherlands, Germany and Greece, among other countries, Nov. 6 before finally hitting the U.S. and Canada, as well as Spain, Italy and Brazil, a day later.
Daniel Craig returns for his second outing as everyone's favorite martini-swilling superspy in Quantum of Solace, which takes its title from one of 007 creator Ian Fleming's short stories, but features a wholly original plot.
The installment picks up where 2006's Casino Royale left off, with Bond searching for answers after the woman he loved, Vesper Lynd, tragically betrayed him.
This time around, the globe-hopping Bond will visit Haiti, Austria, Italy and South America, pursuing the ruthless, diabolical Dominic Greene (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly's Matthew Amalric) and wooing the mysterious Camille (Hitman vixen Olga Kurlylenko).
And of course, there will be plenty of action, including an aerial "retro dogfight" featuring propeller-driven planes, which producer Michael G. Wilson noted in a recent online interview.
Quantum of Solace, helmed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Kite Runner), is currently shooting in such exotic locales as Austria, Italy, Panama, Bolivia, Chile and Baja, Mexico.
