Shia Snuffs Out Smoking Problem

Shia LaBeouf may not be ready to slap on the patch, but he is trying to snuff out his smoking problem.

A day after a Los Angeles court commissioner issued a warrant for the young star's arrest, LaBeouf dispatched a lawyer to the courthouse in Burbank, Calif., to clear up the mess.

LaBeouf had been scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on a misdeamenor count of unlawful smoking. Neither he nor his lawyer showed, and a ticked-off Superiror Court Commissioner Kirkland Nyby issued a $1,000 bench warrant.

After considerable ink—and presumably considerable embarrassment—the star of Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had attorney Michael Norris plead not guilty to the offense on Wednesday. Nyby in turn rescinded the warrant.

A pretrial hearing was set for April 24 and a trial date tentatively scheduled for July 11. (View the court report.)

Because the charge is a misdemeanor, LaBeouf was not required to appear in court.

LaBeouf's publicist, Melissa Kates, issued a "no comment" when asked about the star's whereabouts. He was spotted by E! Online's Party Girl at the Hollywood hot spot Goa over the weekend.
