Lindsay Clears Calendar for Sick Granddad
Lindsay Lohan is scrambling to clear her schedule so she can get to a Long Island hospital where her paternal grandfather is losing a battle with cancer, E! News has learned.
"He's had colon cancer for a while and has been on chemo treatments," says Michael Lohan of his father. "But now it looks like it's spread to his lungs. He's in really bad shape."
Michael called Lindsay in California to break the news to her over the weekend. It was just hours after the family rushed the elder Lohan to the hospital.
Lindsay is currently in Los Angeles, where she is working on a new album. The busy starlet also has two movies in the pipeline, including the Ren Faire-themed comedy Ye Old Times, which also stars Jack Black. The film is scheduled to begin shooting next month.
But after learning of her grandfather's illness, Lindsay promised her dad she would try to find a way to get back for a visit. In the meantime, she hoped to speak to her ailing granddad by telephone, Michael says.
Lindsay's publicist, Leslie Sloane, declined to comment on Lindsay's travel plans, saying only, "I know nothing about this."
Michael says he also called ex-wife Dina Lohan so they could break the news to their minor children, Cody, 11, and Ali, 14, who live with their mother in Long Island.
"I'm hoping they can all come by to visit," Michael says. "I've been there with him every day. But I know he really wants to see his grandchildren."
