Beverly Hills, 90210: The Remake?

Gossip Girl may be getting some competition from the West Coast.

The CW is working on developing a contemporary spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210, per the Hollywood Reporter.

The original Aaron Spelling-produced drama about rich teens living the high life in a privileged zip code aired on Fox from 1990 to 2000.

Original cast members included Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Shannen Doherty, Luke Perry, Brian Austin Green, Gabrielle Carteris and Ian Ziering.

Thus far, details on the project are limited, and it remains unclear whether any of the characters from the original 90210 will make the jump to the new series.

According to unnamed sources cited by the Reporter, the project is close to securing a writer, and the network is expected to decide by the end of the month whether to order a pilot.

Darren Star, creator of the original show and its first spinoff, Melrose Place, is reportedly not involved with the new venture.
