CW Wants More Model, Gossip, Chris

Things are really starting to pick up over at the CW.

The net announced early full-season pickups for six of its star series Monday, with four dramas, one comedy and the original fierce-fest of a reality show all on tap to come back.

America's Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Supernatural and Everybody Hates Chris are all set to return to the CW's airwaves come fall.

The network's most popular series, the Tyra Banks-hosted ANTM, will return with not one but two new cycles, the 11th and 12th, during the 2008-09 TV season.

Gossip Girl has also enrolled for a second, Mischa Barton-less, season, while One Tree Hill will be back for its sixth angst-filled year.

While none of the renewals were much of a surprise, the first three pickups were no doubt the easiest of the no-brainers for the CW, as ANTM, Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill are the network's top-ranked shows among its targeted 18-34-year-old female demographic.

The Thursday night tag team of Smallville and Supernatural are also on the receiving end of early pickups, back this fall for an eighth and fourth season, respectively.

Rounding out the renewals, Chris Rock's critical hit Everybody Hates Chris will also be back to kick off its fourth season. Earlier today, the show doubled its pleasure, feeling the love not only from the CW, but from Nick at Nite, which bought the cable-TV rights to the series. The show will begin airing on the cable channel starting in September 2009.

Two CW shows which definitely will not be back on the air this fall are the WWE's Smackdown and the Girlfriends, both of which were cancelled by the network earlier this month, despite high ratings from the former and milestones from the latter. After eight seasons on air, Girlfriends had quietly become the longest-running live-action comedy on network TV.
