Ex-Miss Nevada Busted for Crowning Cop
Katie Rees lost her crown for showing too much. And yet here's a side the public really hadn't seen before.
The former Miss Nevada USA, who was stripped of her title after the publication of racy pictures shot during a spring break trip tarnished her beauty-queen image, was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly roughing up a cop who pulled her over for a traffic violation.
Las Vegas Metropolitan police said Rees was initially pulled over at around 3 a.m. for speeding, after which officers learned she was driving with an invalid license and expired vehicle tags.
When Rees was told she couldn’t just drive away, she threw an elbow and began kicking the officers at the scene, who then busted her for the vehicular infractions and resisting arrest.
The 23-year-old was taken to Clark County Detention Center and booked on six misdemeanor counts of resisting a police officer, driving with suspended license plates, driving on a suspended license and speeding.
As of 4 p.m., Rees was still in custody and bail had not yet been set. A court date was scheduled for Friday, according to the jail's information hotline.
Rees, who was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, was crowned Miss Nevada USA 2007—the gateway for young lovelies hoping to become Miss USA—in October 2006. She lost her crown barely two months later, however, after Donald Trump's Miss Universe Organization, already plagued with then-Miss USA Tara Conner's antics, decided it couldn't have yet another scandal on its hands.
The bubbly blonde ended up making scandal work for her, though: Just weeks after she was dethroned, she inked a $2 million deal to host the Beacher's Madhouse monthly variety show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, a favorite of celebs such as Nick Lachey and Ben Affleck who are looking to get their fill of comedy, music and scantily clad showgirls all in one stop.
