Heath's Family Homeward Bound
After attending a second memorial for their son and brother in Hollywood over the weekend, Heath Ledger's family will reportedly bid the actor a final goodbye this week at a private funeral in his hometown of Perth, Australia.
A star-studded memorial service was held at Sony Pictures Saturday, where about 1,000 mourners, including Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Sienna Miller, Sean Penn, Orlando Bloom, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia De Rossi and Naomi Watts, turned out to pay their respects to Ledger, who was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Jan. 22.
The hourlong tribute included eulogies from Ledger's father, Kim, and his sister, Kate, as well as from his I'm Not There director, Todd Haynes. Ben Harper also performed at the service.
Onetime fiancée Michelle Williams and two-year-old daughter Matilda did not attend Saturday's memorial. It was unclear whether they would be traveling to Perth, where Ledger is expected to be laid to rest in a family plot next to two of his grandparents.
Ledger's parents and sister left Los Angeles on a flight bound for Australia on Sunday.
The Australian newspaper reported that the family has turned down an offer from the actor's former school, Guildford Grammar, to hold a service in its chapel in favor of keeping the proceedings as private as possible.
Ledger's body was discovered last month by a massage therapist with whom he had booked an appointment. An array of prescription drugs found in the room raised suspicions that his death was the result of an accidental overdose.
An initial autopsy on the body of the 28-year-old actor was inconclusive, and officials are still awaiting the return of additional test results, including a toxicology screen, in order to determine an official cause of death.
Those results are expected back this week.
