Donda West Doc Clams Up
After some teaser revelations in the Los Angeles Times and promises to further discuss the untimely death of his patient Donda West, Kanye West's mother, Dr. Jan Adams appeared Tuesday night on Larry King Live to say...absolutely nothing.
The plastic surgeon had originally signed on to dish to the CNN host to clear his name. Adams had spoken to a handful of media outlets in the wake of West's death on Nov. 10, a day after he performed a nip/tuck. CNN had even sent out an advisory earlier in the week touting Adams' appearance.
But apparently after talking to the West family, Adams decided to scrap the plan, telling King that he was asked not to go through with the interview.
"I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for the West family, and they have asked me not to go on," Adams said. "And I've said from the very beginning I don't have a side in this. They are my side, and so I'm going to respect their wishes."
Before Adams exited the studio, King asked when and if the doctor will plan to comment again on West's death.
"When they're comfortable, then I'll be comfortable. If they're never comfortable, then I'll never be comfortable," Adams told King. "They are what's important to me. I said that from the start, and that's what I'll continue to honor."
Adams also told King he was not interested in speaking out about the case.
Earlier in the day the Los Angeles Times published a Q&A with the embattled plastic surgeon, whose checkered medical past has become public knowledge in the past two weeks. He told the newspaper, "I believe I know exactly what happened to her, but I will not comment on it until I see the final report," and went on to say he believed West succumbed to a heart attack, a pulmonary embolism, or accidental overdose of painkillers following her breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction procedure.
The surprise non-interview with King came just hours after a celebrity-filled funeral service for Donda West near Oklahoma City. Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles were among the mourners at the memorial, which took place at True Vine Ministry church. Both Anita Baker and John Legend performed. Kanye West took a break from the European leg of his Glow in the Dark Tour to attend. He's scheduled to perform Thursday night in London.
Meanwhile, Donda West's autopsy results are expected in four to six weeks.
