Star Trek Reboot Finds Kirk, McCoy

J.J. Abrams has beamed up two key actors for his forthcoming Star Trek flick.

Chris Pine (Just My Luck) is on board to play a young Captain James T. Kirk, while Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings) has joined the cast as Dr. Leonard ''Bones'' McCoy.

The actors are going where other men have gone before—the role of Kirk was originally portrayed by William Shatner, while DeForest Kelly played McCoy.

Pine has been in talks to play Kirk for some time, and ultimately turned down a part opposite George Clooney in White Jazz in order to go Trek-ing, as the shooting schedules overlapped.

The latest castings come after Abrams added John Cho (Sulu), Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Eric Bana (the nefarious Nero) to the film last week.

Other previously announced castmembers include Zoe Saldana as the young Uhura, Anton Yelchin as the young Chekov and Zachary Quinto as the young Spock. The original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, will also appear in the film.

Though few plot details about the 11th installment in the franchise have been revealed, the movie is understood to be focusing on the early days of the Enterprise crew. Unconfirmed reports have circulated that the storyline will revolve around Nero's plot to assassinate the young Kirk.

Shooting is scheduled to begin next month and is expected to last through March 2008. The picture is scheduled for a Christmas 2008 release.
