Justin, Beyoncé, Daughtry Lead AMA Noms
Once again, Justin Timberlake is the all-American man.
The "SexyBack" singer was joined by fellow usual suspect Beyoncé Knowles as well as Daughtry and Linkin Park atop the list of nominees for the 2007 American Music Awards. Each scored three nominations for the annual vox populi prizes.
Soon-to-be four-time AMA host Jimmy Kimmel announced this year's contenders at a press conference Tuesday, assisted by Ashanti and the Jonas Brothers, neither of whom, sadly, managed to secure a nomination.
Timberlake, meanwhile, once again scored a nod in the Favorite Male Artist, Pop/Rock category to go along with nominations for Favorite Album in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm & Blues categories for FutureSex/LoveSounds.
Beyoncé will vie against Timberlake for the Favorite Album, Soul/Rhythm & Blues category with her B'Day; she also is up for Favorite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B.
Linkin Park faces off against Timberlake in the Favorite Album, Pop/Rock category with Minutes to Midnight. The L.A.-based outfit also racked up nominations for Favorite Band, Duo or Group, Pop/Rock and Favorite Artist, Alternative Rock.
Newcomer Daughtry, fronted by American Idol also-ran Chris Daughtry, will compete against Linkin Park and Timberlake in the Favorite Album, Pop/Rock category. The group also scored in the Favorite Breakthrough Artist and Favorite Artist, Adult Contemporary categories.
Daughtry has also confirmed it would be performing during the ceremony, as are Celine Dion, Fergie and Rihanna.
Speaking of, Fergie will be vying against Beyoncé and Avril Lavigne as Favorite Female Artist, Pop/Rock, while Rihanna is up against Fantasia and Beyoncé for Favorite Female Artist, Soul/Rhythm & Blues.
Artists with two nods apiece include the country-fried Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts, as well as the rap trifecta of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, T.I. and Young Jeezy. Other notable nominees include producer extraordinaire Timbaland, who stares down frequent collaborator Timberlake in the Favorite Male Artist, Pop/Rock category, John Mayer, Jennifer Lopez and the cast of High School Musical 2.
For the first time ever, fans will have complete control over who brings home the hardware, with voting taking place entirely online through abc.com.
