Kiefer: 24 Still a Go, Police Gig Not So Much

Unlike other illegally challenged stars, Kiefer Sutherland won't be biding his time in seclusion until his scandal blows over.

At least not yet.

While Sutherland's Tuesday-morning DUI arrest has him potentially facing a minimum of four days and maximum of one year in jail on probation violation charges, his headline-grabbing bust, for the time being, has failed to put a crimp in his work schedule.

The actor's arrest will not immediately affect the production of 24, which is already working toward its January debut. Sources confirmed to E! Online that Sutherland was back on the set of his countdown drama Wednesday morning.

Of course, if the Emmy winner had heeded his employer, he might not be in this mess.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sutherland was offered the use of a company limo service to take him directly from Monday's 24 set to the Fox Fall Eco-Casino Party at Area nightclub Monday night, where the actor was spotted in the hours preceding his misdemeanor bust.

As it is, his arrest and several-hour stint in the Hollywood police station did not affect production, since he was not scheduled to work on Tuesday.

Sutherland is due back in court Oct. 16, and should he wind up with mandatory jail time for violating the terms of his probation from a 2004 DUI conviction, the show's shooting schedule could face some serious rejiggering or, in the worst case scenario, indefinite postponement.

Fox declined to comment. Sutherland's publicist said it was "premature" for the actor to address the situation at this time.

The series is in the first year of a recently announced two-year pickup.

In the meantime, the 40-year-old appeared as scheduled at a Tuesday ceremony in his honor by ACTRA, the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists. Sutherland received the Excellence Award at the event, which was closed off to the media in the wake of his arrest.

The Canadian-reared actor made a speech, though NYPD Blue actor Gordon Clapp, who was present at the affair, told the Associated Press, "There was no mention of anything, certainly about the last 24 hours, but that's only fair.

"He was fine, he was good. He was very affable with everyone and happy to see everybody."

While Sutherland seemed in good spirits at the ACTRA luncheon, he might be making alternative plans for a weekend dinner.

Sutherland had been scheduled to appear at the True Blue fundraiser for the Los Angeles Police Foundation Saturday. He was due to introduce producer Brian Grazer at the $350-a-head event, though given his high-profile indiscretion, his appearance has been nixed. Instead, the ever uncontroversial Ron Howard will take over his presenting duties.

"Obviously, we don't want to embarrass him...or the department, so introducing Brian on the stage would be inappropriate," foundation president Karen Wagener told the Los Angeles Times.

Wagener said Sutherland was still on the guest list, but she was not sure if he was going to attend.

The actor was stopped by cops at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, when officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn. After he failed a field sobriety test, they arrested him and booked him on the DUI charge, releasing him at 5:42 a.m., after Sutherland posted the requisite $25,000 bail.

The incident marks Sutherland's fourth time getting busted on the charges. He's due back in court next month.
