More Recruits for Heroes: Origins

Heroes is taking a turn for the horrific.

Hostel director Eli Roth has signed on to pen and direct an episode of Heroes: Origins, the spinoff of the hit NBC sci-fi series.

Superman Returns writer Michael Dougherty is also onboard to pen an episode.

The two guest scribes join Clerks director Kevin Smith, who was previously announced as an Origins writer-director during Comic-Con.

Smith—a self-professed fan of the series—admitted at the time that it was a daunting task to be handed the reins to the first episode of the spinoff series.

"I just don't want to be the guy who ruins Heroes," he joked at the time.

Roth's other credits include Hostel: Part II and Cabin Fever, while Dougherty cowrote X2: X-Men United and the upcoming Trick 'r' Treat, which he also directed.

NBC has ordered six episodes of Heroes: Origins, which centers on the adventures of characters not previously seen on the original show.

Each episode will introduce a new character and viewers will eventually have the chance to vote on which Origins character should be added to the main series for season three.

The spinoff will premiere in midseason, while Heroes is on hiatus, allowing for fewer repeats of the mothership series and for a less noticeable gap in programming.

The second season of Heroes premieres Monday.
