Ex-Karate Kidder Pleads Innocent
Balance good. Karate good. Getting arrested bad. Very bad.
Sean Kanan, best known for playing Ralph Macchio's archenemy in 1989's Karate Kid, Part III and stints on General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful, pleaded not guilty Monday to a pair of misdemeanor DUI charges stemming from an arrest last month.
The 40-year-old thesp was taken into custody about 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 18 after police pulled him over on suspicion of drunken driving.
He was booked on one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and one misdemeanor charge of driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher, according to Frankn Mateljan, spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. Kanan was released a few hours later on $30,000 bail.
Because the charges were misdemeanors, Kanan was not required to appear in person for his arraignment at Hollywood Superior Court; instead, his attorney entered the plea on the actor's behalf.
A rep for Kanan could not be reached for comment.
This isn't the Kanan's first run-in with the law. Per TMZ, Kanan was previously convicted of a DUI in 1998.
Word of his arrest broke one day after news leaked that his fellow GH star Kirsten Storms was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of drunken driving.
Aside from getting his kicks in Karate Kid, Part III, Kanan scored major face time during a 1993-97 spell ABC's General Hospital and a 2000-05 run on CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful. Kanan also had guest roles on Step by Step, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, The Nanny, Walker, Texas Ranger and V.I.P.
