Indy 4 Title Becomes Crystal Clear

Britney Spears was officially upstaged by Indiana Jones Sunday at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

On hand to present the Female Artist of the Year trophy, Transformers star Shia LaBeouf informed the  folks in attendance, as well as millions of at-home viewers, that the title of the upcoming installment in the Indiana Jones franchise will be Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

"I've been sworn to secrecy by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas to not tell you the title of the next Indiana Jones movie, but I'm 21 now, so…" LaBeouf said coyly.

Proving that the bean spillage was no accident, Paramount Pictures, the film's distributor, immediately issued a press release touting LaBeouf's titular revelation.

The young actor is part of a heavy-hitting cast that includes Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone, John Hurt and Raiders of the Lost Ark love interest Karen Allen.

Although the well-guarded plot of the fourth film is being kept under proverbial (and possibly actual) lock and key, Allen's addition to the lineup has sparked speculation that LaBeouf will play her and Ford's son, who presumably has been long lost to the intrepid archaeologist.

Other possibilities include the British-born Hurt taking over where a now-retired Sean Connery left off as Indy's father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (or playing Albert Einstein, depending on whom you ask); Broadbent playing a bumbling yet useful sidekick à la Denholm Elliot's Professor Marcus Brody; and Spielberg's missus, Kate Capshaw, returning as Temple of Doom gal Willie Scott.

But all secrets will be revealed in due time. The Spielberg-directed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a Lucasfilm production, has been slated for a May 22, 2008, release. Cameras started rolling in June.
