Owen Wilson Pulls Out of Thunder

After requesting the opportunity to "heal in private," Owen Wilson is taking time off to do just that.

Following his hospitalization after a reported suicide attempt Sunday, the actor has dropped out of the Ben Stiller-directed film Tropic Thunder, according to the trades.

Neither DreamWorks nor Wilson's camp have commented on the development.

The ensemble comedy, which stars Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. and Nick Nolte, began production six weeks ago. Wilson had been scheduled to depart for Hawaii to shoot his role in the coming weeks.

According to Variety, Wilson and longtime friend Stiller reached a mutual decision that he should sit this one out. It's unclear whether his role will be recast or written out of the script altogether.

"Ben and Owen have made eight movies together," a source close to the project told Variety. "And he can't wait to work with Owen again. It's just not going to be on this film."

The film centers on a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie, who, through a series of freak events, are forced to become the soldiers they set out to portray. Wilson's decision was not expected to affect production.

Wilson remains in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. A spokeswoman for the facility said he was "in good condition."

Police logs confirm that officers responded to the actor's Santa Monica home around 12:08 p.m., after receiving a call about an "attempted suicide."
