Springsteen Makes Magic Happen
The Boss is ready to work his Magic.
Bruce Springsteen will release his latest studio album via Columbia Records on Oct. 2, the label said Thursday. Magic is Springsteen's first recording with the E Street Band since the release of 2002's Grammy-winning, multiplatinum The Rising.
The rocker's longtime manager, Jon Landau, described the offering as "high-energy rock" and "immensely entertaining."
"It's light on its feet," Landau said, "incredibly well played by Bruce and the members of the E Street Band and, as always, has plenty to say."
Coinciding with the album's release, Springsteen and the E Street Band will kick off a full-scale fall tour Oct. 2 in Hartford, Connecticut, marking their first trek since 2002-03. Members of the band include Roy Bittan and Danny Federici on keyboards; Clarence Clemons on saxophone and percussion; Nils Lofgren and Steven Van Zandt on guitars; Patti Scialfa on vocals and guitar; Garry Tallent on the bass; and Max Weinberg on drums.
The tour will take the band across North America and Europe, before wrapping up Dec. 19 in London. Tickets go on sale Thursday.
Springsteen and the E Street Band reunited with producer Brendan O'Brien to record Magic over two months in Atlanta.
Songs on the album include the title track, "Radio Nowhere," "You'll Be Comin' Down," "Livin' in the Future," "Your Own Worst Enemy," "Gypsy Biker," "Girls in Their Summer Clothes," "I'll Work for Your Love," "Last to Die," "Long Walk Home" and "Devil's Arcade."
The 11-song disc is Springsteen's first collection of new material since the 2005 acoustic solo album Devils & Dust, which debuted atop the charts.
The Jersey native's most recent studio offering, the Pete Seeger tribute album We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, opened at number three last year. A live version, Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band: Live in Dublin, debuted at number 23 in July.
