Playboy Mansion Investigation Over
Fri., Aug. 10, 2007 9:28 PM PDT by Natalie Finn
All is quiet at the house that Hef built. Relatively speaking, of course.
The Los Angeles Police Department said Friday that it has called off its investigation into a reported sexual assault last weekend at the Playboy Mansion after county prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence to file charges.
Authorities said that a 22-year-old woman claimed to have been raped while unconscious at the famed Holmby Hills residence, but L.A. County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said that the woman's statement could not be corroborated and that she has since declined to pursue the case.
Rob Hilburger, West Coast publicity director for Playboy Enterprises, told E! News that they had been informed by the LAPD early Friday that the investigation was drawing to a close.
"This morning, we were informed by LAPD that their investigation has concluded with no evidence of any sexual assault having occurred at the Playboy Mansion," Hilburger said in a statement. "Safety and security at the Mansion remain a priority, not only for those who live there, but for all invited guests. We thank the LAPD for their quick and thorough investigation into this matter."
Police stared looking into the alleged incident on Monday following the Mansion's annual Midsummer Night's Dream pajama party, whose guest list included Martin Landau, Jon Lovitz, Dave Navarro, Garry Marshall, Heroes' Milo Ventimiglia, Jennifer Coolidge, Crispin Glover, Scott Baio, Jamie Kennedy and Paris and Nicky Hilton.
