Amy Winehouse's Exhausting Hospital Visit
Thanks to a case of "severe exhaustion," Amy Winehouse won't be taking her "Rehab" act on the road anytime soon.
The hitmaking British chanteuse was briefly admitted to University College London hospital Wednesday morning, where she received the diagnosis.
"Amy was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has been advised to take complete rest," her label, Island Records, said in a statement.
Performances scheduled to take place in Norway and Denmark this week have been indefinitely canceled.
One of those shows was set for Wednesday at Olso's Oya Festival. Organizers say they found out only hours before the gig that the beehived Back to Black songbird would be a no-show.
"The news of the cancellation came abruptly and surprisingly upon us a little before 1 o'clock this afternoon" organizers wrote on the fest's Website, adding that they received no explanation for the pullout. "Winehouse's large crew arrived yesterday, and her backing band had just finished their sound check when we were notified."
In the past month, Winehouse has pulled out of a handful of major U.K. festivals. She skipped Scotland's T in the Park for what organizers described as "unforeseen circumstances" and Liverpool's Summer Pops, citing illness.
"I don't ever want to miss a gig, but sometimes I just don't feel up to it," the 23-year-old said at the time. "I know it's last minute, and it's really irresponsible, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and I'd rather reschedule a show than do it half-heartedly."
There's no word yet on when the jazz-infused singer plans to get back on the road, but she's due to kick off a month of U.S. dates Sept. 12 in New York.
The tatted-up singer has already made a name for herself on this side of the pond, with her sophomore album, Back in Black, a fixture in the Billboard Top 10 for most of the summer week, with sales of more than 1 million copies stateside.
The album has been a huge hit in her native England and was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize, along with such fellow buzz acts as the Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T and Dizzee Rascal. The award will be presented Sept. 4.
On Tuesday, Winehouse received three nominations for the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards: Best New Artist, Female Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for her troubled-starlet anthem "Rehab."
The newlywed artist, who tied the knot with beau Blake Fielder-Civil in May in a surprise Miami ceremony, is expected to attend the awards in Las Vegas on Sept. 9.
