More Driving Woes for Lindsay
Just weeks after Lindsay Lohan got out of one small-claims court case, an illegal U-turn has landed her smack in the middle of another.
The legally challenged actress and longtime bodyguard Jazman Bennett have been sued by a woman who claims she crashed her car earlier this year as a result of the pair's dangerous driving maneuvers.
As Signe Dupuy tells it, she was motoring down Los Angeles' Fairfax Avenue in the wee hours of Apr. 26 when Lohan made an illegal U-turn in front of her. Bennett, who was trailing the actress in a black SUV, immediately followed suit, cutting off Dupuy and causing her car to collide with his back tire. (View the complaint.)
When Dupuy got out of the car following the crash, she claims Lohan stopped and glared at her before driving away, while Bennett acted hostile and gave her a fake name and number when she asked for his license and insurance information.
Dupuy told tmz.com she sent a letter to Lohan's rep in an attempt to clear up the situation, but never heard anything back. For her part, Lohan's rep said she received the letter, but assumed the actress' attorneys were dealing with it; there was no immediate comment from Lohan's lawyer.
With no resolution in sight, Dupuy filed suit in small-claims court Monday, seeking $7,500 in damages from Bennett and Lohan to compensate her for "damage, injury and pain and suffering."
As if Lohan's legal docket wasn't already full enough, she's now due to appear in small-claims court in September to answer to Dupuy's allegations.
Meanwhile, on the professional side, the producer of Lohan's new film, Dare to Love Me, insists the actress is still attached to star in the project, despite her various issues.
"It's happening. Everything's on schedule. We're just working out the conditions so she'll be able to make the film," producer Lucas Jarach told People.
He called Lohan's legal problems "a complication," but claimed the production schedule would not be altered and that filming would commence on Oct. 1.
However, sources tell E! Online that Lohan has been cut loose from the project and that producers have been on the lookout for another actress to fill the role.
