Dress for Idol Success
Fancy a pair of Carrie Underwood dungarees? Blake Lewis parachute pants? Sanjaya Malakar do-rag? You may be in luck.
Lyric Jeans has offered its sartorial services to fill the American Idol-shaped hole in the nation's wardrobes. The fashion company has entered into a licensing deal with series producer FremantleMedia to launch an apparel line very literally inspired by the show's musical stylings.
Lyrix by Lyric Culture will initially be produced in junior girls' and girls' sizes, and will launch next February, in conjunction with the reality competition's seventh season. The line will eventually branch out to feature non-gender specific children's wear as well, possibly as early as next year.
The debut collection will include tops, jackets, jeans, pants and dresses, with each item of clothing set to be emblazoned with either song lyrics that have been featured prominently on the show—culled from theme weeks and favored contestants' singles—or other American Idol miscellany. Achin' for Aiken T-shirt, anyone? Maybe a Simon Cowell-sanctioned muscle shirt?
The line, which ranges in prices from $10 to $40, will be sold at midrange department stores and mass retailers.
"The idea is to enable girls to feel like they are a rock star or an American Idol," Lyric president Hanna Rochelle Schmieder said.
"American Idol is the most powerful and iconic music brand in popular culture today and the perfect tie-in for our creative concept," she said. "We couldn't have dreamt of a better partner. Now music and fashion lovers everywhere can feel like a pop star and express themselves through our lyric-driven brand."
Lyric Jeans has also mass marketed lyric-laden clothing for the Beatles, the Bee Gees and Rod Stewart.
