Rosie Lunches with Price Producers
There may not be a Rosie future for The Price Is Right.
After meeting with the producers of the game show Thursday, the former View cohost had little to report about the interview on her blog.
In response to a reader's question about how the meeting went, O'Donnell responded, "we had a nice lunch," but did not elaborate further.
Speculation that the outspoken TV personality could succeed Bob Barker as host of the show intensified last week at the Daytime Emmy Awards, when the retired host said he had "no doubt" that O'Donnell could take over.
"She knows the show," Barker said. "There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show."
O'Donnell seemed to agree, writing on her blog that she "sure would" accept an offer if one came her way.
"I LOVE THE PRICE IS RIGHT," she wrote, in a rare use of capitalization to emphasize her point.
However, in the days that followed, both she and Barker sounded less certain that she was the woman for the job.
Barker clarified that his comments at the Emmys were not meant as an endorsement of O'Donnell, per se.
"I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one," Barker told the AP Wednesday. "I think there are several candidates who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them."
Meanwhile, even before meeting with the producers, O'Donnell posted a video blog message saying that she "didn't know if it was gonna work out."
"It would be good for me, but I don't know if it's right for them," she said.
Other hosts reportedly in contention for the Price gig include former E! personality Todd Newton (E! Online is a division of E! Networks), Mark Steines of Entertainment Tonight, John O'Hurley, George Hamilton and the latest entry to the competitive field, Drew Carey.
When asked by a reader how she felt about Carey being added to the mix, O'Donnell replied, "i love drew carey."
If O'Donnell doesn't land the position, she's not sure what her next venture will entail.
"I have no plans," she wrote on her blog.
