The Hoff's Ex Looking for Better Support System
With new counsel in tow, David Hasselhoff's ex headed back to court to improve the hand she's been dealt.
A day after Debra Opri was pulled off the case, Pamela Bach and attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan appeared Tuesday in front of the judge who awarded Hasselhoff sole legal custody and primary physical custody of their two daughters to kick off proceedings that she hopes will lead to more child and spousal support.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Juhas approved Bach's change of representation and scheduled a temporary support hearing for Aug. 16. Hasselhoff was not in court today.
A hearing on permanent support, meanwhile, is set for Oct. 1. Unlike the court action leading up to last week's ruling, the upcoming court dates will likely be open to the public unless either side's attorney can show reasonable legal grounds to seal the hearings.
As it stands, Bach's visitation privileges extend to every other weekend and Wednesday dinner dates. Before Friday, when Juhas issued his ruling, the 43-year-old former actress had been sharing custody with her ex-spouse and spending four days a week with Hayley, 14, and Taylor, 17.
Hasselhoff has since made it clear to the court that the girls' mom can visit them anytime, the actor's attorney, Melvin Goldsman, told E! News last week. (Physical custody refers to living arrangements and the day-to-day care of a child, while legal custody gives a parent the right to make decisions for the children.)
But although Opri continued to express optimism that the system would work in her client's favor in the end, Bach apparently decided that she had better go ahead and find a way to beat the system that, so far, had worked largely in Hasselhoff's favor.
Juhas suspended the 54-year-old actor's visitation privileges on May 7 after getting a load of the home video shot by his older daughter, in which he sits drunkenly on the floor of his Las Vegas hotel room—where he stayed while starring in the Sin City production of The Producers—and Taylor implores him to stay clean.
Two weeks later, however, Hasselhoff was back in the fold and, now, his nest is full again.
In addition to winning custody, though, the former Baywatch star has been ordered to undergo periodic testing to ensure that he continues to abstain from alcohol.
Juhas obviously doesn't want to have to watch any more of the Hoff's home movies.
