Five Years After Kid Porn Charges, Kelly Doubles Pleasure

Happy anniversary, R.

Nearly five years to the day since he was indicted on a slew of child pornography charges stemming from a well circulated sex tape, the R&B hitmaker has scored his latest number one album, Double Up.

For the week ended Sunday, the album sold 386,000 copies, per Nielsen SoundScan.

The new disc has spawned two current radio singles, the Usher collaboration "Same Girl" and "I'm a Flirt (Remix)," and also features Kelly's Virginia Tech tribute, "Rise Up." Aside from Usher, Double Up has contributions from Kid Rock, Nelly, Ludacris and Keyshia Cole.

This is Kelly's fifth solo number one album and second in a row. His previous chart-topper, 2005's TP-3: Reloaded, sold an even more impressive 491,000 first-week copies, though that album benefited from Kelly's wildly popular "Trapped in the Closet" series, which was parodied on the classic Tom Cruise episode of South Park.

It was on June 5, 2002 that a grand jury in Cook County, Illinois, indicted Kelly on 21 counts of child pornography for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl. In the intervening years he's released seven albums and still no trial date has been set.

With Double Up on top, Maroon 5's It Won't Be Soon Before Long and Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight each dropped a spot, to two and three, respectively.

Country singer Jason Aldean scored the only other Top 10 bow with Relentless, selling 98,000 copies at four spot. The Peach State native won Top New Male Vocalist at last year's Academy of Country Music Awards thanks to his 2005 debut.

British wild child Amy Winehouse climbed back into the Top 10 at six as the three-month-old Back to Black sold another 50,000 copies. The album's sales jumped 28 percent thanks to a performance at the MTV Movie Awards and a Rolling Stone magazine cover.

This week's Top 10 holdovers included Daughtry's self-titled at five, Young Jeezy/U.S.D.A.'s Cold Summer at seven, Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing at eight, Michael Bublé's Call Me Irresponsible at nine and Ozzy Osbourne's Black Rain in the 10 spot.

The week's only other big bows were Circa Survive's On Letting Go at 24 selling 24,000 copies and Perry Farrell's new band, Satellite Party, selling 8,000 copies of Ultra Payloaded at 91.

Among the week's big gainers, Robin Thicke's The Evolution of Robin Thicke jumped 18 spots to number 12 thanks to an Oprah appearance. A pair of Brits, Corinne Bailey Rae and Lily Allen, also made gains with Rae's self-titled climbing 15 spots to 34 and Allen's Alright, Still up 13 to 52.

Meanwhile, over on the singles chart, former Destiny's Child Kelly Rowland jumped 33 spots to number one with "Like This."
