Hoff Continues Custody Fight
Another closed hearing, another open smile from David Hasselhoff.
The America's Got Talent judge emerged from yet another closed court session in his ongoing custody battle with ex-wife Pamela Bach Monday a slightly giddier man. While attorneys for both sides said that nothing had been resolved in the hearing to determine custody of the duo's two teenage daughters, it appeared things were looking up for the Hoff.
"The judge asked me not to say anything to you guys," the grinning thesp told reporters outside the courtroom. "And right now, we're just gonna respect what the judge says."
That makes one of them.
"I want a resolution," a nonsmiling Debra Opri, Bach's attorney, told the same crowd. "It is exhausting [how] they keep dragging it out."
As it is, they're dragging it out at least one more week.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark A. Juhas, who has been with the case since its preleaked video inception, again presided over the 90-minute hearing, ordering the bickering twosome to return to court June 15.
However, if the demeanors of the 54-year-old former Baywatch star and the 43-year-old Bach are any indication, next weekend might make for a very happy Father's Day.
The duo last appeared in court two weeks ago during another closed session in which they again were prohibited from discussing the goings-on of the hearing with the press. But then, as now, Hasselhoff emerged from the courtroom unable to hide his smile, telling reporters that "it went very well—the truth was told."
While details of that hearing even now have yet to be confirmed, initial reports suggested the former couple arrived at a temporary custody arrangement, in which Hasselhoff got to see his daughters on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, provided he comply with an order to submit to three blood tests per week to check his alcohol level.
That seemed to be the case as the Hoff told reporters he was heading straight from the courthouse to visit with his two teenage daughters, Hayley and Taylor. "I will see them in exactly five minutes if I get out of here."
Nearly a month ago, Juhas temporarily suspended Hasselhoff's visitation privileges with the 14- and 16-year-old girls after viewing the now-infamous home video footage of the erstwhile Knight Rider star drunkenly attempting to eat a hamburger while one of his daughters pleaded with him to get his drinking under control.
Bach and Hasselhoff divorced last August after 17 years of marriage and currently have joint custody of the girls. Each is seeking to limit the other from having more expansive rights.
