Penn Comforts Eve After Ruff Ride

Guess you could call it an Eve of self-destruction.

The Ruff Ryder was rung up on a drunken-driving charge early Thursday after slamming her Maserati into a divider on Hollywood Boulevard, police said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 28-year-old entertainer, whose full name is Eve Jeffers, was driving through Hollywood around 2:45 when she lost control of her gold-hued ride and smashed headfirst into a cement median.

Neither Eve nor her two passengers appeared to have suffered any injuries, police said.

Video of the incident obtained by E! shows the rapper-actress getting handcuffed by officers. TMZ, meanwhile, describes Eve as "visibly upset" during the arrest.

She submitted to a blood-alcohol test, but the results were not immediately available, per the LAPD. She was booked for suspicion of driving under the influence and held in custody until 6 a.m., when her manager posted $30,000 bail.

During her sojourn at the Hollywood division, police confirm she was visited by Sean Penn. No word on what connection the Oscar winner has with Eve; a police spokeswoman told E! News Penn had "nothing to do with the DUI" and was apparently "visiting as a friend." (Watch video of Penn leaving the police station on The Vine.)

There was no immediate comment from either Eve or Penn's publicist.

The Philly-born star hit it big with her chart-topping 1999 solo debut, Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryder's First Lady. She won a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with her Gwen Stefani duet "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" off her 2001 release, Scorpion. While both those albums were strong sellers, her 2002 effort, Eve-Olution, was a commercial disappointment, peaking at number six on the charts.

Eve rapped on the recent Kelly Rowland single "Like This" and is currently working on a new album, tentatively titled Here I Am.

Her acting credits include the Vin Diesel action flick XXX and the Ice Cube-fronted Barbershop movies, as well as her eponymous UPN sitcom, which lasted three seasons before being canceled last May. Her next acting gig, per IMDb, is the crime drama Ego, due in 2008.
