James Blunt Not Charged for Ped Crossing
It's a beautiful day to be in the clear.
The Los Angeles City's Attorney's Office said Thursday that it will not press charges against James Blunt over the literal run-in he had with a paparazzo's foot while leaving a pre-Oscar party.
Although prosecutors reserve the right to file charges, none of the information gathered at this time leads the city attorney to believe that Blunt should be charged with anything, City Attorney's Office spokesman Frank Mateljan said.
The LAPD had been investigating the circumstances surrounding the vehicular snafu, treating it as a possible misdemeanor hit and run.
While motoring away from CAA agent Brian Lourd's L.A. mansion in the wee hours of Feb. 24, Blunt and then-girlfriend Petra Nemcova were attempting to steer through a presumably rabid pack of onlookers and shutterbugs when their SUV ran over a male bystander's foot. After which, Blunt drove away.
Blunt's rep later tagged the man on the receiving end of that drive-by as an aggressive member of the paparazzi.
The "You're Beautiful" crooner was merely trying to avoid the media who were "swarming all over his car as he was driving two miles-per-hour trying to navigate his way through them," the rep told People at the time.
While the rest of that weekend went well for Blunt, who performed at fellow Brit Elton John's annual post-Oscar bash benefiting the pop star's eponymous AIDS Foundation, his personal life hit a sour note.
Blunt and Nemcova split up in late February, and, per TMZ.com, the singer has since traded in his SUV for a more fuel (and foot)-friendly hybrid Mini Cooper.
Which is fitting for a singer who has been tapped to appear July 7 at London's Wembley Arena for the 2007 installment of Live Aid, alongside Madonna, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other environmentally conscious artists.
Blunt's follow-up to the platinum-selling Back to Bedlam is due out in September.
