House Call Ends in Arrest at Cruise's
Tom Cruise might want John Cusack's advice right about now.
A woman with the same name as the woman against whom Cusack sought a restraining order last year was arrested after showing up apparently unannounced and uninvited at Cruise's Beverly Hills home Thursday afternoon.
Emily Diane Leatherman, 32, was arrested at 3:36 p.m., and held pending $45,000 bail, Sgt. Rex McEvoy of the Beverly Hills Police Department said Friday.
McEvoy could not confirm if Cruise's Leatherman was Cusack's Leatherman—however, both women have the same first, middle and last names and are the same age.
It was not known if Cruise or wife Katie Holmes were home at the time of Thursday's incident, McEvoy said. Police would not divulge who alerted authorities at about 3 p.m. to Leatherman's presence.
Leatherman was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property and violating a restraining order, police said. McEvoy couldn't say what hot item Leatherman allegedly had on her, and he couldn't say whose restraining order she allegedly had defied.
Last July, Cusack won a three-year restraining order against Emily Diane Leatherman after he accused her of generally displaying "unusual interest" in him, and specifically throwing love letters (mixed in with screwdrivers and rocks) over his fence. He also claimed she had a penchant for showing up unannounced and uninvited at his house.
In an interview with TMZ around the time of the Cusack court action, Leatherman said she only sought out the High Fidelity star and other notables, including Cruise, in order to bring attention to her story, her story being that she was "dragged around and raped" in the early 2000s.
According to Leatherman, a Cruise flack was helpful to her cause, giving her tickets worth more $200, she said, for a "personal" visit with the Mission: Impossible actor.
But as it apparently turned out, the tickets didn't come with front-door privileges.
