Ellen Bids You Greetings
We always knew Ellen DeGeneres was a card. But little did we guess she'd have her own line of them.
The Emmy-winning funnylady has sealed a licensing deal with Hallmark rival American Greetings Corp. to create a signature series of greeting cards featuring her trademark wit, helping millions of Ellen fans celebrate all those special occasions.
"I look at having a line of cards as another extension of being a host; helping you wish your loved ones well, piggybacking on your birthday greetings," the comedian said in a statement. "I like to be up in the middle of everything, and doing it this way is much easier than crashing parties."
The collection will include 32 specially designed cards featuring illustrations of the talk-show host cracking wise about birthdays, anniversaries and holidays; offering words of friendship and encouragement; expressing get-well wishes and thank yous; and generally musing on life's great adventure with the brand of humor that has made her syndicated daytime chatfest, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, such a hit.
The New Orleans native's quirky, congenial style and hilarious dance moves have helped her show win 15 Daytime Emmy awards to date, plus another 12 nominations this year. Her showmanship skills have also led to several notable prime-time hosting gigs, including emceeing the People's Choice Awards and this year's Academy Awards.
Following the announcement, shares of American Greetings rose by eight cents.
This isn't the first occasion the feel-good company has sought out professional funny-bone ticklers. American Greetings previously had a licensing agreement with comedian Jeff Foxworthy, of "You Might Be a Redneck" fame.
DeGeneres' card line will debut in stores this summer.
