Anna Nicole Judge Gone to Pot?
The Anna Nicole Smith saga seems to be taking its toll on just about everybody these days.
One of the Florida judges who weighed in on issues concerning both the paternity of Smith's daughter, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, and custody over the late Playboy model's remains, was busted Sunday for marijuana possession after several police officers spotted him smoking a joint in a public park.
A spokesman for the Hollywood (Florida) Police Department told E! News that three on-duty officers were working out in Stanley Goldman Park at around 2:30 p.m. ET when they caught a whiff of what smelled like marijuana. Following their noses, they found Judge Lawrence Korda sitting under a tree and smoking what looked like a marijuana cigarette.
A patrol unit was called to the scene, where officers performed a field test and determined that Korda was, indeed, puffing on pot, Captain Tony Rode said.
In lieu of arrest, Korda was given a notice to appear—a standard procedure, according to Rode, because Korda was in possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, making the crime a misdemeanor.
"He was not given any special treatment," Rode said. Korda was charged with possession of an illegal substance, an offense punishable by a maximum of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Korda, who's not to be confused with tearful Circuit Judge Larry Seidlin, was the first judge to hear arguments in the skirmish over who was entitled to custody of Smith's remains. Seidlin then took control of that case, eventually turning Smith's body over to Dannielynn's guardian ad litem, Richard Milstein.
Korda later heard brief arguments in the ongoing paternity battle between Smith's ex-boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, and her partner Howard K. Stern, who is registered as Dannielynn's father on the six-month-old girl's birth certificate.
It was Korda who ruled that the Bahamian courts had jurisdiction over the child-custody matters, calling Dannielynn "Bahamian-born, Bahamian-residing."
In related news, Birkhead reportedly emerged Friday from a custody hearing in the Bahamas looking like the cat who swallowed the canary, prompting the assumption that the DNA test that Birkhead has been pleading for since October to determine Dannielynn's paternal parentage has been ordered to take place sooner rather than later.
"April will be like the greatest month of my life, I'm hoping," Birkhead told Access Hollywood. The wannabe baby daddy is due back in court Tuesday.
