Katherine Heigl Dresses Up for Summer
Katherine Heigl will be trading in her scrubs for Dresses this summer.
The Grey's Anatomy player has signed up to star as a perennial bridesmaid in 27 Dresses, a romantic comedy from The Devil Wears Prada scribe Aline Brosh McKenna.
Heigl plays an obviously lovely young lady who gives new meaning to the saying "always a bridesmaid, never a bride," having donned the lesser gown 27 times without ever getting her own chance to wear white. Meanwhile, her 28th fruitless trip down the aisle promises to be the toughest of all, considering this time the bride is her sister and she's set to marry the man who Heigl is madly in love with.
Filming is set to begin in May in New York and Rhode Island once Grey's goes on hiatus, according to Variety.
(Coincidentally, Patrick Dempsey also has big-screen wedding plans for the off-season, albeit in Made of Honor, in which he plays the best friend of bride Michelle Monaghan, who asks him to take on the traditionally female role of maid of honor.)
In real life, Heigl's romantic forecast is looking decidedly less hazy. The 28-year-old actor got engaged last summer to singer Josh Kelley, becoming his leading lady a little more than a year after starring in the music video for his tune "Only You."
Heigl's financial status is a little more up in the air, however, ever since she reached an impasse with ABC in the latest round of contract negotiations, during which Grey's costar Ellen Pompeo bumped her green intake up to $200,000 per episode.
Sources told E! Online's Kristin Veitch that Heigl was angling for a similar raise, prompting an assurance from ABC that Heigl will be continuing on as Izzie Stevens," despite her refusal of their "offer to raise her compensation significantly."
The ado also led Heigl to express her embarrassment over the network's public treatment of the matter, saying that she had been hoping to take care of things confidentially "because I wanted to treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them."
All appears to be well, however, at least on the Golden Globe-winning dramatic front. The network said that Heigl is already signed up for another three years of Grey's Anatomy, through the series' sixth season, and Dr. Izzie herself has said how committed to her character she is, even if she does keep sleeping with the wrong men and falling for the terminally ill.
In the meantime, Heigl is currently on the big screen in the ensemble comedy Caffeine, which focuses on the romantic and sexual misadventures of the employees and customers at a London café. She stars in the upcoming Knocked Up, from The 40-Year-Old Virgin director Judd Apatow, due in theaters June 1.
The former model also inked a deal last week to be the face of Nautica Woman, the sportswear line's first fragrance pour femmes.
