Angelina in Vietnam to Pick Up New Child

On Tuesday, Vietnamese officials announced that Angelina Jolie could be united with her new son in as little as three weeks. Turns out, they overestimated by about 20 days.

Just one day after confirming that Jolie's adoption application had been fast-tracked, the Oscar winner touched down in the Asian nation Wednesday night to formalize her adoption of a three-year-old boy.

Jolie arrived late in the day with five-year-old son Maddox in tow. The two were picked up at the airport by two men, who whisked mother and child away in a dark SUV.

A Vietnamese official told the Associated Press that Jolie will be required to attend an adoption ceremony with her new son, who name has not been released, on Thursday morning, followed by a meeting with U.S. consular officials in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the final review, the agents will give Jolie's paperwork a once-over before signing off on the adoption, issuing the boy a U.S. passport and allowing the trio to return to the States.

The whole process is expected to be completed by this weekend, allowing Jolie, Maddox and the new family member to return to their New Orleans home base. There they'll be united with father figure Brad Pitt, 2-year-old Zahara and 10-month-old Shiloh, none of whom made the journey with Jolie.

Jolie and Pitt first met with their new addition during a visit to the Tam Binh orphanage last Thanksgiving, months after Jolie initially filed an application to adopt from the country as a single mother. The declaration, however, is simply a technicality as Vietnam does not allow unmarried couples, à la the Jolie-Pitts, to adopt.

Earlier this week, Tam Binh director Nguyen Van Trung said that the boy was both "in good health" and "a little bit shy."

Trung also said that the orphanage had tried and failed to locate the child's birth parents prior to signing off on Jolie's adoption, and that the boy was brought to the orphanage as a baby after he was found abandoned at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital.

Trung further revealed that the boy counts soccer among his favorite pastimes and gets along well with other children at the facility.

Which is good news for his siblings.

The boy will be the fourth addition to the Jolie-Pitt brood, and will fall in line after Maddox as the second-oldest of the clan.
