Spelling Out a Reconciliation

The Spelling family's made-for-TV feud may have a happy ending after all.

With Tori Spelling due to deliver the latest addition to the bloodline any day now, she and her estranged mother, Candy Spelling, are reportedly trying to work through their differences.

"We have been in touch with each other and are in the process of communicating and working things out," the elder Spelling told People magazine.

During an appearance on the Today show Monday, Tori, 33, also alluded to her hopes of reconnecting with her mother, though she did not elaborate.

A rep for the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum declined to comment on the situation.

The mother-daughter duo were already estranged at the time of Aaron Spelling's death in June, and their relationship became increasingly volatile in the months following.

The troubles between the two reportedly began when Tori included a wicked parody of her mother in an episode of her VH1 faux-reality series, So NoTORIous, which left Candy enraged. Tensions escalated after Aaron Spelling's death, when Tori learned she had inherited only $800,000 of her father's vast fortune and blamed her mother for cutting her out of the will.

Neither Spellings was shy about waging war against the other in the press, with Tori telling Us Weekly in June that she learned of her father's death via her BlackBerry. "My first thought was, I can't believe my mom didn't call me!"  she said.

Candy responded by issuing a statement calling her daughter's comments, "mean-spirited," and "petty," and accusing her of sullying her father's memory.

"Aaron's legacy deserved pure and unadulterated tribute and recognition which, sadly, has been tainted," she said in a statement also attributed to her son, Randy Spelling.

Though Randy, 28, has sided with his mother over his sister in the family feud, Tori has said the siblings have maintained an "okay" relationship.

"Randy's kind of caught in the middle because he has a very close relationship with my mother and a very close relationship with me. He tries to stay neutral, and I admire him for that," she told USA Today in December.

With his family's warring factions seemingly headed for a truce, Randy credits his soon-to-be born nephew as being the catalyst.

"They are going to be there for each other and baby. My mom is having a grandchild, and it puts things into perspective," Randy told People.

"No matter what, we are family, and they're resolving things and getting back together. They are communicating, and it makes both of them happy. It's definitely a mutual thing," he added.

The reconciliation between mother and daughter coincides not only with the impending birth of Tori and husband Dean McDermott's son, but also with the debut of the couple's new reality series about renovating and running a bed-and-breakfast in Temecula, California. Tori & Dean: Inn Love premieres Mar. 20 on Oxygen.

The B&B, named Chateau La Rue in honor of Tori's pug, Mimi La Rue, celebrated its grand opening earlier this month with a party attended by E! Online Senior Editor Marc Malkin, who deemed the décor, "funky," "trendy" and "tranquil."

Perhaps the true test of the mended Spelling family ties will be whether or not Candy Spelling books a room at her daughter's establishment.
