Lance Gets in Sync with Memoir
Lance Bass already came out of the closet. Now it's his skeletons' turn.
The former boy bander has signed a publishing deal with Simon Spotlight Entertainment to pen a memoir, titled Out of Sync, for release this fall.
Bass, at the ripe old age of 27, will reveal "all about his life, his music and his sexuality," in the tell-all, according to the Simon & Schuster imprint.
"This I promise you," Jennifer Bergstrom, SSE's vice president, said, continuing the 'N Sync theme, "Out of Sync will be the much-talked about memoir of the fall season."
As the title alludes, Bass will allot several chapters to his experiences as one-fifth of the world-dominating pop group, which he joined at age 16 after a phone call from Justin Timberlake.
Bass will chronicle his time in the band, from the moment he left his Clinton, Mississippi, home to the quintet's years toiling in Germany to the real story of the group's "controversial management" under Lou Pearlman.
Also getting some pen service will be the four ill-fated months in 2002 Bass spent in Russia training to be a cosmonaut—and a late-night punch line—and, of course, the announcement that he was gay and his subsequent split from his reality show boyfriend.
According to the publisher, Bass will discuss the ins and outs of keeping his sexuality secret from fans at the height of the group's success, as well as the aftermath of his coming out last July.
At the time, Bass said, "I'm more liberated and happy than I've been in my whole life," grateful that he was able to reveal his sexuality on his "own terms." Before then, he said, "[the rumors] were starting to affect my daily life."
Bass also admitted that he was dating Amazing Race alum Reichen Lehmkuhl, who himself published a memoir last year, Here's What We'll Say: Growing Up, Coming Out, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. The couple split for good in February.
All 256 pages of Bass' memoir are set for release in October.
