Naomi Does Floors, Not Windows
Naomi Campbell is going to clean up in her next venture—guaranteed.
Campbell has been sentenced to spend five days becoming acquainted with a mop and perhaps a broom at a New York City-run warehouse as penance for a misdemeanor assault case, reports said.
The 36-year-old supermodel pleaded guilty in January to striking her maid in the head with a cell phone.
Campbell was fined $363, ordered to undergo anger-management counseling and rung up for five days' worth of community service.
As the New York Post reported Tuesday, the community service will benefit the walkways of New York City's sanitation department, with its Lower East Side warehouse to be spruced up by the world-famous jet-setter starting Mar. 19.
"This is not a desk job," a source told the Post. "She'll be mopping floors."
Not only that, the mole told the paper, Campbell will be mopping floors in a fashion-appropriate ensemble of a safety vest, gloves and boots.
Campbell, from whose hands phones and other objects tend to fly, sounded unfazed.
"Naomi is ready to report and complete her community service, no matter where or what she will be assigned," a rep said in the New York Daily News.
Last year, former Culture Club member Boy George got stuck on the very public streets of New York City, much to the delight of photographers, when he did his time for the crime of filing a false police report. Campbell's camp had lobbied for the model to be spared a similar spectacle.
Campbell's road to a safety vest began last Mar. 30, when the model was arrested for assaulting housekeeper Ana Scolavino during an apparently animated discussion over a pair of missing jeans.
In court in January, Campbell accepted responsibility for whacking Scolavino in the head with her cell. In a way.
"I threw a cell phone in the apartment. The cell phone hit Ana," Campbell said at the time. "This was an accident, because I did not intend to hit her."
Scolavino's head was not charged with getting in the way of Campbell's phone.
Campbell's guilty plea was her second this decade. In 2000, the catwalker copped to clanking her personal assistant with a telephone.
