Usher Stylin' with Engagement
It looks like Usher's got it bad for the altar.
Much to the lament of his female fanbase, the R&B superstar with the six-pack abs will be leaving his bachelor days behind after getting engaged to his girlfriend, stylist Tameka Foster, sources confirmed to E! News.
No word exactly when Usher, whose full name is Usher Raymond, popped the question or when the twosome will tie the knot. A rep for the 29-year-old singer has declined to comment on various media reports that the two decided to get hitched on Valentine's Day.
The first clear sign that Usher had taken himself off the market came during last Monday's NAACP Theatre Image Awards in Beverly Hills, where he accepted his Spirit Award by thanking Foster and introducing her as his "fiancée." Foster, 37, has also been spotted about town recently sporting a 10-carat rock on her ring finger.
The couple have been an item for a year. They first met back in 2004 when Foster, who has previously worked with such music stars as Toni Braxton and Lauryn Hill, joined Usher as a stylist on his Truth tour supporting his last multi-platinum album, Confessions, which spawned the mega-hit "Yeah!"
Apparently, not everyone is thrilled by the prospective nuptials.
According to the New York Daily News, Usher's mom, Jonetta Patton, who also serves as the Grammy winner's manager, is "flipping out" over the union, having previously fired Foster because "she didn't think she was dressing him according to the caliber of star he was."
Well then, perhaps she'll do better as his wife.
It will be Usher's first marriage and the second go-round for Foster, who was previously married to Ryan Glover, the cofounder of Atlanta-based Noontime Music.
Before he decided to start planning a wedding, Usher was taking on dames of a different kind, making his stage debut last August as fast-talking attorney Billy Flynn in the hit Broadway revival, Chicago. However, he was forced to quit the musical in October after coming down with a case of strep throat.
