Prison Break Star Preggers
Prison Break star Sarah Wayne Callies is breaking out a new role: mom.
The 29-year-old actor is expecting her first child with husband Josh Winterhalt, her publicist said Tuesday. The baby is due in late summer.
On Prison Break, Callies portrays Dr. Sara Tancredi, the aiding and abetting romantic interest of Wentworth Miller's character, Michael Scofield.
Her character has come close to death on a number of occasions, overdosing on morphine at the end of season one, and nearly being drowned in a bathtub in season two.
When Tancredi was last spotted, she was on the run to avoid becoming a victim of the same government conspiracy that claimed her father's life.
"I think it's some of the most creative storytelling for women on TV right now," Callies said in a recent interview. "They're giving me a lot of latitude in establishing a sense of who she is, then putting her in circumstances where it all comes apart. That's gutsy."
It's unclear whether Callies' pregnancy will impact the story line.
"The producers are not certain how they are going to deal with Sarah's pregnancy on Prison Break, but it definitely will not be an issue this season," a Fox spokesperson said and then added somewhat ominously for a series known for its high body count:
"As for next season, it's too soon to tell. We all wish Sarah the best."
The second season of the Fox drama returned Monday night after a two-month hiatus, drawing almost 10 million viewers.
Before landing her role on Prison Break, Callies guest-starred on such television series as Law & Order: SVU, Numb3rs and Dragnet. She also starred as Jane in the short-lived series Tarzan.
In addition to her small-screen work, Callies has branched out into feature films recently, with a role opposite Lost star Josh Holloway in the upcoming thriller Whisper. She also starred in the film adaptation of The Celestine Prophecy, which was released on DVD in December.
