A Son for Six Feet Under's Ambrose

Life goes on, even when you're Six Feet Under

Lauren Ambrose and husband Sam Handel welcomed their first child together, son Orson Handel, Tuesday in New York.

"The family is very happy, the baby is happy, and Lauren is doing great," a friend of the couple told People magazine.

Ambrose tied the knot with Handel, a photographer, in September 2001. The creative couple swapped vows in Massachusetts, where Ambrose once studied opera at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

A two-time Emmy nominee for her role as little sis Claire Fisher on the seminal HBO drama Six Feet Under, Ambrose is also a fixture on the indie film circuit. The latest fruit of her art-house labor, the drama Starting Out in the Evening, premieres Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival, which kicked off this week.

According to the Internet Movie Database, we can also expect to see Ambrose on the big screen in the coming-of-age tale Diggers, set in a community of Long Island clam diggers; the what-happens-when-lives-intersect ensemble drama Tonight at Noon; and the man-meets-dog-and-falls-in-love dramedy A Dog Year.
