No Thai Knot-Tying for Moss and Doherty

Despite reports to the contrary, Kate Moss and Pete Doherty apparently did not ring in the New Year by tying the knot in Thailand.

Moss' rep Stuart Higgins denied any wedding had taken place, dismissing numerous reports that the couple had traded vows in a non-legally binding ceremony.

"Contrary to various entirely false media reports today, there has not been any kind of marriage ceremony in Thailand. She is on holiday," Higgins said in a statement Tuesday.

Both Britain's Daily Mirror and Sun reported that Moss, 32, and Doherty, 27, wed New Year's Day in a candlelit ceremony on the beach in Phuket.

According to the reports, Moss wore a low-cut silver gown for the occasion, while Doherty donned his usual trilby hat. The ceremony was said to have taken place at the exclusive Amanpuri resort at around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Because the ceremony would not have been legally recognized in the U.K., the couple was said to be planning to follow up their Thai union with a more traditional wedding in London on Jan. 18, according to the Sun.

"This was not likely to be a formal wedding because Kate would have wanted all her family and friends there," a "close pal" told the Mirror.

"It is much more likely to be a symbolic gesture to show everyone just how serious they are about each other."

Apparently, it was more of an imaginary act than a symbolic gesture.

Since resuming their on-again, off-again romance last fall, Moss and Doherty have dropped hints that marriage could be in the cards.

Moss has been spotted wearing a sizeable diamond ring on her left hand, while Doherty told fans in October that he planned to marry the model "soon."

At least for now, it seems that "soon" continues to mean "not yet."

Had the couple exchanged vows, it would have been one way to cap off a very good year for Moss and a fairly typical year for Doherty.

For Moss, 2006 was the year of the comeback, following her September 2005 cocaine scandal. She rebuilt her career with lucrative modeling contracts, launched a new clothing line and even earned the title of Britain's Model of the Year.

For Doherty, on the other hand, 2006 was the year of more of the same old story. He was arrested on numerous drug offenses, logged some time in court-ordered rehab and, just last month, was fined $1,500 and sentenced to two years' probation.

There just may be some truth to the old saying "Love is blind."
