Gwen Stefani Starts Making Scents

For Gwen Stefani, the smell of success just got a little more customizable.

The Hollaback Girl has signed a fragrance deal with Coty Inc. to create her own line of signature perfumes under her L.A.M.B. imprint.

"Creating a fragrance is one of the most prestigious things a designer can do," said Stefani. "For me it's like another thing you can wear and another thing I can creatively be a part of."

The first in the planned series of fragrances will be marketed toward women and is expected to debut in fall 2007, though the principals have yet to settle on a name for the scent.

"I'm creating it for myself," she added. "It's like me shrunken into a box."

The announcement of a fragrance deal is just the latest sideline project for the empire-building pop star.

In September, Gavin Rossdale's other half teamed with Huckleberry Toys to launch a line of limited-edition dolls modeled after the singer, with each one donning an outfit straight off the stage of her Harajuku Lovers tour.

In addition to getting dolled up, the platinum-haired singer has a standing clothing and accessory design gig with her three-year-old Love.Angel.Music.Baby. brand. As if that weren't enough, the over-achieving 36-year-old also managed to launch a new line of handbags, with Schifter & Partners, and has announced plans to go into watch and sneaker design.

She's also been known, on occasion, to sing.

Further adding to the delay of No Doubt's inevitable reunion, Stefani released her second solo album, The Sweet Escape, this week, for which she'll head out on a two-month tour in April.

"The album is surprisingly different than the last one," she told Billboard. "I started recording it last year before Kingston was born and it's definitely evolved over the last year. The dance sound is very 'now.' It's modern...not so retro."

As for her deal with Coty, the company has emerged as one of the go-to backers for Hollywood's more enterprising leading ladies.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kylie Minogue and Celine Dion have all launched signature scents in collaboration with the brand.
