Farrah Fawcett Completes Cancer Treatment
Farrah Fawcett is on the mend.
The 59-year-old actress was said to be "doing well" Tuesday after completing six weeks of treatment for cancer, according to her rep Mike Pingel.
Fawcett was diagnosed with colon cancer in September after doctors discovered a malignant tumor in her lower intestine. She subsequently underwent radiation treatment and surgery.
"The outlook is really good and her spirits are high," Pingel said.
In response to the numerous letters of support she received during her treatment, the Charlie's Angels star released a personal note to her fans on Access Hollywood's Website.
"So many of you wrote that I had inspired you in one way or another over the years," Fawcett wrote. "Well, now you have done the same for me. Your words of encouragement have helped keep me strong during these last six weeks.
"And now that I have completed my treatments, I am happy to say that the hardest part is over. Of course the passage of time will be the most accurate test, but I am starting to feel better and I am looking forward to going back to work after the holidays."
Pingel said the actress would continue to reach out to fellow cancer sufferers on her official Website by posting tips and info about her recovery process.
In an interview with Extra Tuesday, Tatum O'Neal said that her father, Ryan O'Neal has been by Fawcett's side throughout her treatment.
"We all are just giving her a lot of love and prayers…that’s what she needs right now," the younger O'Neal said. "She's a tough lady!"
For his part, Ryan O'Neal told People magazine that Fawcett has "been really extraordinary" since learning of her diagnosis. The former twosome have a 21-year-old son together and have remained close over the years.
