A Baby Today for Matt Lauer

Better brew that coffee extra strong. Matt Lauer, who's already up in the wee hours of the morning prepping for the Today show, may be pulling midnight diaper duty as well.

The NBC newsman and his wife, former model Annette Roque, welcomed their third child Tuesday, a boy they've named Thijs (pronounced "Tice"), in honor of his mother's Dutch heritage.

Thijs was born at 9:37 a.m. at a New York hospital, weighing in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces, according to Today spokesperson Megan Kopf, who also said that "mom, dad and baby are doing well." Lauer skipped the show Tuesday to be with his missus.

The couple are also mom and dad to son Jack Matthew, 5, and daughter Romy, 3.

Lauer and his missus almost didn't get the chance to make it a party of five, however—they separated in the summer of 2005 after almost seven years of marriage. But they reconciled and announced this summer that another baby was on the way.

"I was on Today for five years before I had children," Lauer said in an interview with the New York Times Magazine in August. "And back then, the job took up a larger slice of the pie graph of my life than was healthy. When I had kids, that immediately changed. It flipped."

Lauer joined the top-rated morning show in 1994 and was promoted to co-anchor alongside Katie Couric in 1997, where his looks put him in good stead with the ladies and his personality and journalistic prowess scored him points with, well, the ladies.

Following Couric's announcement in April that she would be heading over to CBS, Tom Cruise's favorite interviewer inked a $13 million deal to keep reliving Today until 2011. Meredith Vieira came on board in September to share hosting duties.
